Tijan Watt

Tijan has enjoyed a 20 year career as both an operating entrepreneur, creating dynamic companies in Senegal and in the US, and an investor, working in investment banking at Goldman Sachs and Private Equity at Nigerian firm Travant Capital Partners. Tijan graduated summa cum laude and phi beta kappa from Howard University in Mathematics / Computer Science and holds an MBA from Harvard University.

Tijan, co-founder and Managing Partner of Wuri Ventures (www.wuri.vc) has spent two decades devoted to promoting entrepreneurship in Africa, and has built and operated several startups on the ground in Africa, and is an active writer (www.tijanwatt.com) on business in Africa. 

Wuri Ventures has invested in more than 20 companies including regional leaders like Carry1st, Lori Systems and WhereIsMyTransport, alongside global investors including a16z, Google, Samsung Ventures, Avenir Growth, CRE and SBI amongst others, as well as Senegal headquartered companies including Cauri Money and Kwely.

New Venture Competition

As part of the conference, the Africa Business Club will be hosting the New Venture Competition which seeks to showcase the diversity of entrepreneurs making a difference on the continent today.

From the pool of over 380 applications, 10 finalists were  invited to pitch their business in front of over 1,000 attendees and receive feedback from a panel of experienced judges. The competition winner and runner-up, and third place will be awarded cash prizes of $30,000, 15,000, and $10,000, respectively.
