Elam Muchira

Elam Muchira is the Founder and Managing Partner of Black Bull Capital, a project finance advisory firm based in Washington DC that specializes in infrastructure projects in Africa, with a particular focus on energy. Elam has over 20 years of investment experience in Africa, including over 15 years at the International Finance Corporation and the World Bank, and 9 years in private equity and investment banking.

Elam's previous roles working at the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) Global Infrastructure & Natural Resources department, and the World Bank’s Energy & Extractives global practice have allowed him to gain valuable insights into the challenges of the energy & infrastructure sectors throughout Africa, both from a private sector and public sector perspective.  While at IFC, he led numerous investment projects in East and West Africa and has advised governments on their energy sector reforms while at the World Bank.

At Black Bull Capital, Elam leads a team of seasoned professionals with extensive global experience in project financing, private equity, and project development. Their goal is to provide specialized due diligence solutions to clients navigating the complex arena of project finance, private equity, and project development. Their services include financial structuring, project and financing documentation negotiations, as well as industry and sector advice and guidance.

Democratizing Energy Access

There are currently 800 million people without access to energy in the world, 80% of them are in Africa. This lack of energy stifles economic growth and development. There are several reasons why access to energy remains a challenge across Africa – insufficient generation capacity, poor transmission and distribution infrastructure, lack of affordability and inadequate regulation. This panel seeks to discuss how the public and private sector can work together to solve Africa’s energy crisis.
